At the start of girl group aespa’s debut, SM Entertainment announced that they would build SMCU (SM Culture Universe), a universe that connects all of their singers. Wouldn’t we be able to find a glimpse of this universe if we listen to all the songs related to the SM universe metabus ‘KWANGYA’👀⁉ Let’s learn about the huge SM worldview through NCT ‘90’s Love’ and aespa ‘Black Mamba’!
In the first episode of the SM Culture Universe series, they explained ‘KWANGYA’ as an infinite, unrestricted area beyond the flat(where ae’s live). ‘naevis’ (a virtual presence that connects the members with aes through a sync) opened the door to ‘KWANGYA’, and the video ends with ‘Black Mamba’ (creature interfering with the sync between avatars and humans) appearing through the door. Apparently only ‘naevis’ can open the door to ‘KWANGYA’, which is why aespa sang ‘naevis, calling’ in their song NEXT LEVEL. Let’s focus on this important character: ‘naevis’!

The lyrics feature the worldview story adventures unfolding as aespa finds out that it was ‘Black Mamba’ that was threatening the world and interfering with their connection with avatars ‘ae’.

Combining 90s hip-hop with modern sounds created a newtro sound. The lyrics contain the message that NCT wishes to create their own value with meaning, one similar to how our past memories are still meaningful right now.

SM 세계관 에피소드1 영상에서 광야를 "플랫(ae들은 살고 있는 가상 세계) 너머 아무것도 규정되지 않은, 무규칙, 무정형, 무한의 영역"이라고 설명하며 'naevis' (멤버들과 ae들을 싱크를 통해 연결해 주는 가상 속 존재)가 "나는 문을 여는 자"하며 광야로 가는 문을 열었고 블랙맘바(아바타와 인간의 싱크를 방해하는 존재)가 나오며 끝이 납니다. ae-에스파 친구들은 광야로 가는 문을 열 수 없고 오로지 'naevis'만 열 수 있습니다. 그래서 에스파의 NEXT LEVEL에서 "나비스? 콜링."을 했던 것이었군요! '광야'와 광야를 열 수 있는 유일한 존재 'naevis'를 주목합시다! (SMCU는 SM Culture Universe로 에스파를 시작으로 sm엔터테인먼트의 모든 아티스트를 연결시켜 하나의 세계관을 만드는 것을 목적으로 하는 프로젝트)
