We’re back today with part two of our look into Secret Number’s discography and today we’ll be covering their second single album ‘Got That Boom’.
Secret Number made their second comeback with their single album ‘Got That Boom’ with the title track of the same name. The song is an old school dance track very reminiscent of 2nd generation groups like 4minute, and was met with mixed reactions.
While some fans loved how different the stages felt from other 4th generation idols, others weren’t happy with their supposed regression to 2nd generation style music and styling - this could be felt particularly from their colourful and textured outfits, which stand out from the sleek and uniform looks most idols wear today.
Still, no matter how you felt about the song itself, the members still killed it on stage, their dance moves were sharp and they showed a lot of charisma in how they commanded the stage; even K-Pop fans from outside the fandom were surprised to see a small company put out a group with so much talent!
Just as before, the ladies of Secret Number did not disappoint when it came to their b-side track either. Showing their diversity once again, ‘Privacy’ had an sexy yet chill vibe, and the members showed off a much more effortlessly cool charm rather than their powerful charismatic side.
Many LOCKEYS were entranced by this chill and relaxed concept, stating that it gave them a different vibe to most other K-Pop songs and that the song was a masterpiece. The music being less intense also allows you to hear the members’ vocals much better than their title tracks, which once again left LOCKEYs asking why the song wasn’t being given more promotion and attention.
Though fans weren’t always happy with the decisions the company made in regards to how they styled and promoted the group, their support for Secret Number never wavered, and it’s no wonder that this continued passion and support won Secret Number the ‘Best Rookie Female Idol Award’ at the Asian Pop Music Awards in 2020. However, the group were set to go through a big change in 2021 and with it, a new era would emerge! You’ll have to wait until tomorrow’s article to find out though~
